About Erasures during Board Exam

actual pencil I used, I lost the eraser

I have read a lot about erasures during board exams. They say that you are NOT allowed to erase the ones you have already shaded and should move on. If you erase, from that number that you corrected, the machine that reads the exam paper will stop there. I do not know if this is accurate. I also read about many people who have erased but according to them they still got high scores in the board exam. They say that we need not be scared in erasing wrongly shaded items.

One thing I want to share with you from experience, it is better NOT to erase.

Before taking my exam, I have read a lot of blogs and I have researched a lot about the board exams, what to do on that day or the HOW TOs and all. It made me more prepared since I already know what to do during the exam day.
It made me more prepared that I decided I will erase if ever I have shaded any item that I think I have shaded wrongly. I told myself I'd be very careful in shading but IF ever I'll have corrections... I'd DO it...I'll erase.

On the day of the exam, it was on the second day that I did it. I remembered clearly...it was exam IV and it was item #80. That was all!

When I got the results, guess what?
That exam that I had made an erasure was my lowest. It all flashed back into me the blogs that I have read about 'making erasures is OK'.
What if that person erased in item #90 up?...Then that would give him more chances of a higher score than the ones who will erase from #50 below right?
Or what If he erased on item #80 like me but then  has perfected his answers from items 1-79?
What if I erased on  item #1, would I have 0% on my Exam IV. A lot was going to my mind, even up to now.

I have realized that there are a lot of factors to consider.
It is POSSIBLE to make erasures and still have high score. Well, I am not saying that because I had erased that I got low grade on that part of the exam. It might be because I did not study enough or it may be coincidental that I got a low grade on the exam that I had erasure. But as I have said, better NOT erase at all so that you will know if it were really your answers that made that low score for you and not the erasure you committed. You don't want to end up having regrets like me. huhuhu!
Lesson learned: (Maging sigurista!) Prudence is a virtue! XD
Good thing I passed the exam, if not, I'd be so,
so unhappy.

Good luck to the future Nursing Board Exam takers.
God bless!

  2. I still have that Faber Castell 9000 2b, but ended up using the Mongol No. 2 instead for the exam. =) That's a good pencil because I think you probably need a few strokes for its shade to be dark.

Did you use the same erasure that came with your Faber Castell 9000 2b pencil for the exam? Because I was surprised about what you mentioned on your blog post since the erasure was specially designed for computer exams.

  4. I took the prc board exams for psychometrician last october 2014, I have to say.. erasures does not matter. I have an erasure to this one item wherein I just had to change my answer. I got so paranoid because I have not been able to fully erase since there is still a grayscale marking on the scantron form. In addition to my paranoia, I've read in some blogs that when you have erasures to a specific item, the remaining items after that erasure will be invalidated because the scantron machine will stop working (due to your erasure). I HAVE TO SAY, THESE PRECONCEPTIONS ARE NOT TRUE. I had that one item erasure and I still passed the board exam. It's not worth to be paranoid about. Just study and prepare well for the next days and avoid erasures as much as possible next time. You will be fine. All those rumors about the scantron machine stopping is just a way to make others feel better about not making it in the board exams. Just focus on yourself and believe in your ability to pass the exam. So stop worrying and start studying. Good luck! :)

  10. I really really want to tell naman my experience. When i was shading my answers on the answer sheet I've made the grave mistake of shading the wrong letters (probably because i was so sabog) and that was 5 items but thank God i only shaded lightly and used a really good exam grade eraser and made sure i did not damaged the answer sheet so there. I think it's okay to erase If and Only if you made sure you have a really good exam grade eraser and if it's really an emergency like what I've done hahahaha
